Rashmi Pilai

Bio

As Executive Director, Ms. Pillai leads the strategy, stakeholder relations, program implementation, impact measurement, and research for FSD Uganda. She has 15 years of global development experience, specializing in private sector driven impact. Prior to taking on the role, Ms. Pillai served as FSD Uganda’s Director of Programmes. Rashmi is a digital financial services specialist who previously worked with CGAP at the World Bank as the digital payments lead for Uganda and Rwanda. Simultaneously, she served as an advisor to the Ministry of Finance Rwanda on behalf of the Better than Cash Alliance (UNCDF) and supported the development and finalization of their National Payments Systems Strategy. Other significant achievements include her co-founding of the Sankalp Forum in India - a platform for connecting for profit social enterprises with investors. Under her leadership, Sankalp became one of the largest deal flow pipelines for impact investors, facilitating over $45M in deals from 2009 to 2012. The platform today has expanded to East Africa and East Asia. As a Fulbright Scholar, Rashmi earned a Master’s in Public Policy from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, with a specialty in political and economic development. She also holds a Masters in Spectroscopic Physics from M.S. University, Baroda in India. Rashmi and her family have lived in Uganda for many years and are proud to call it home.
