Bio

Loise Machira is the Founder of Tizi Talks, a Certified Mental Health Advocate, Legal Consultant, Podcaster, and the 1st Global Wellness Ambassador for Kenya. Loise has developed her professional background over the past five years within the legal sector, humanitarian field, and digital communications. She is deeply passionate about wellness, community, active citizenship, and social justice. With these three pillars, she has set up successful initiatives and has been nominated for both local and regional awards. Tizi Talks is a health and wellness blog whose mission is to advocate for enjoyable healthy living and self- empowerment through fitness. In 2019, the blog was nominated by the Bloggers Association of Kenya for two awards, ‘Best New Blog’ and ‘Kenyan Blog of the Year’. In 2020, she was nominated for the regional award of Founder of the Year (FOYA) within their under 30 category; an initiative that celebrates young African founders contributing to the development of Africa. She is also the Co-Host of the Podcast, ‘Broke African Writers’, launched in 2021, which discusses the business and creative process of writing. Within the disability rights sector, she works as a Legal Consultant to interpret the law, conduct legislative research, raise awareness about the loopholes in implementation, review existing bills in Parliament, and offer recommendations on how to comply with international law and best practices. She has participated in parliamentary public hearings on the formulation of the Mental Health (Amendment Bill) of 2018 with the Kenyan National Commission on Human Rights and other Civil Society Organizations to advocate for a human rights application within mental health laws. With her legal training and specialization in mental health, she is a seasoned media panelist on all matters mental health. As a Community and Resource Mobiliser, Loise set up an initiative that raised 20,000 USD in 2020 to support 600 evicted families in Nairobi County- Kenya at the beginning of the pandemic. Through this project, she continues to work in the community by offering free legal advice and representation through a network of dedicated pro-bono lawyers.
